Kayak Nature Tours

Kayaking Tour Rates, Rentals, & Other Services

We do require advance reservations. You can phone, email or use our online registration. We will require a credit card at time of reservation. Once your reservation is made, you will receive an email confirmation with detailed directions to the launch site and a list of what to bring.

All trips are led by one or more of our trained Guides and Guide Assistants and do include basic paddling instruction and all kayaking gear.

Our Guides and Guide Assistants work very hard to provide a fun-filled, educational tour for all of our guests. Tips are welcomed and greatly appreciated. We can even add the tip to your credit card, just let us know.

We will offer flat water tours year round as weather permits.

RENTALS: Unfortunately, we do not currently have an on-water rental location. We have car-top rentals for daily rates only from our office in Norfolk. We will help you put a kayak or two sometimes more on top of your car to take wherever you like. This takes more time and advance planning but you can go wherever you want. We have many suggestions depending on the time of year and weather conditions. You can pickup the night before. We have foam roof racks that can accommodate most sedans, wagon, and SUV’s. Pickup trucks do not do well unless they have a very long bed. Our shortest single kayak is 13 feet long and a double is at least 15 feet long. All rentals include kayak, life jacket, and paddle. Covered kayaks also include a pump and a sponge. Please note: there is a deposit of $500 to $1000 required for each kayak rented. This is usually done with a credit card.

Beginner Kayaking Instruction

We offer one and two day courses in covered kayak operation. These classes are for people who are interested in becoming comfortable and safe in covered kayaks in preparation for all day explorations.

First Day topics: basic equipment, boat design and fit, efficient paddling strokes, wet exit, and assisted rescues.

Second Day topics: hazards, map reading, solo rescue and rolling, navigation, towing, and ideas for local area trips.

The majority of both days are spent paddling and practicing on the water. The first day starts on a protected beach and remains in the immediate area. By the end of day one the class will have decided which natural area to tour on day two.

This class is best taken with both days in succession but we do allow you to take ‘one day at a time’. Both days of instruction cost $200/person. One day of class costs $100/person. Class size is limited to five students.

We also offer surf kayaking instruction, winter pool clinics, skills clinics, rolling, self, and assisted rescues, and an intro to kayaking class. Contact us for more details.
